In Arabic, a demonstrative pronoun is called اِسْمُ الإِشَارَةِ  (ism al-ishārah). It is used to point to someone or something, just like this, that, these, and those in English. It is important to note that Arabic nouns and pronouns are categorised into singular, dual, and plural forms. In this lesson, we will focus only on the singular demonstrative pronouns.

This (m) is a book.	هٰذَا كِتَابٌ
This (f) is a car.	هٰذِهِ سَيَّارَةٌ
That (m) is a house.	ذٰلِكَ بَيْتٌ
That (f) is a female student.	تِلْكَ طَالِبَةٌ

*Note that (m) refers to masculine and (f) refers to feminine.
